A Scary Experience

Lyd and sister

Lydia and one of the nuns who lives next door

We had a slightly scary experience yesterday: after church (where Caleb preached an excellent sermon on stewardship), Lydia said that she wanted to walk home-as her parents like to spend time talking with people after church. We said it was fine-it was in the morning and we live only about a mile from the church. Well, when we arrived home, there was no Lydia. I walked back, thinking that perhaps we had passed her in the car. I met Moses and about 5 of his friends also walking from church and when I told them that we couldn’t find Lydia, they immediately went back to the church to look for her. I went back to the house and I went in one car and Caleb went in another and Sarah Jane went on her bike-but NO Lydia. We called and asked around, but NO Lydia. Finally, after over an hour of fruitless searching, we imagined the worst. We were about to call the police, when Lydia came back , from visiting the nuns who live next door. They had met up with Lydia when they were walking back from church and they had asked her to breakfast. Lydia has been  meaning to visit with them for a while, so she readily agreed and apparently had a good time, given the length of her visit. There were some tears all around, but we were thankful that she was “found.” I suggested 2 things: 1. We should stick together and 2. Perhaps Lydia could have a phone so we could call her when we needed to.  When I told Lydia this, she said that she favored the phone suggestion over the other one!

  1. I really enjoyed visiting a bit with Lydia- what a beautiful girl with a lovely personality! I found myself wishing my Sam was a bit younger 🙂
